Buccal Massage

What is Buccal massage? First off, how do you pronounce this word? I’ve heard buck-le and bū-kle. Potāto, potâto. Either way is fine.

  • Buccal massage is the manual manipulation of the external and/or internal facial muscles. Buccanator is the muscle that allows one to pucker their lips, but this is not the full extent of a Buccal massage.

Why should I get a Buccal massage?

  • It feels great! Seriously though, not only does it feel great it is another way to release tight muscles like the Masseter, that’s our chewing, talking, teeth grinding muscle…yeah, that one.

  • Also, Buccal massage is another layer in addressing the fascia of the face. And if our fascia is healthy our skin looks better!

What happens during a Buccal massage?

  • An external Buccal massage is done with the Face Fascia Blaster on the face and neck to warm up the tissue for 10 minutes (5min/side). Then I’ll wipe most of the lubricant off so that I can gently flush the lymph. During the massage I’ll hold the tissue of your face between my fingers, gently rolling and pulling the skin upward and outward so that there is a further release of the fascia and skin moving from one side of the face to the other.

  • An internal Buccal massage - Yes, inside of your mouth, will consist of the same warm up as described above with the Face Fascia Blaster and flushing of the lymph. Then I’ll put on latex-free, powder-free exam gloves to gently put my hands inside of your mouth and gently roll and pull the tissues of your face upward and outward to really get the facial anatomy to ‘let go’. This is particularly helpful for those who are suffering from TMJ issues and face unevenness that is caused by tight muscles and/or fascia.

*Added bonus* Scalp Fascia Blasting - this is a 10 minute add-on to any session. Your hair should be out. Braids are fine as long as it isn’t a loose braid like a French braid. NOTE: The Fascia Blaster will be in a ziploc bag to prevent tangling the hair with the blaster.

*Contraindications*

  • Filler - You have to wait one month before doing Buccal massage

  • Threads - You have to wait six months before doing Buccal massage

  • Facelift - You have to wait at least 6 months before doing Buccal massage
